My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

Eh, took me a few months before I took the time out to see what this whole pony thing on B12 is all about.

Most of the initial problem is the 'manliness' prejudice thing, but that may have come from people talking about it, so I sub-consciously adopted that stance too.
Ponies before MLP were blatant commercially horribad carebear girly stuff. Offense fully intended. And by jah are they ugly little brightly coloured things, get a real horse instead.

But yea, considering I've watched Powerpuff Girls and Sailor Moon as a kid/teen, arguably girly shows, but they had action of varying degree.\

The "rampaging" serpent, probably scares off the insecure/homophobic... some guys probably watch this with the 'must protect my manliness no matter what' guard up... heightened alarm. There is little to no normal manliness to counter-attack the introduction of the serpent...
For example, in a show like Die Hard, having a gay character is ok, cause its chock full of manliness and probably sexy girls everywhere else. In MLP, before the serpent is introduced, you just got girl ponies and a baby dragon. So they got blaring alarms running in their head, letting loose the manly bots, who go wild on the person's tolerance and sensibility, when the serpent shows up.

I didn't really have any opinion on it one way or another. I expected myself to hate it because I'm normally a hipster, but I didn't actually hate it. Then, I watched some PMVs and I knew I was gonna like the show when I knew the names of the Mane 6 without ever having seen even one episode.
Then, I watched the first episode, liked it, watched the second one etc...

I don't remember where I first heard about it, but as soon as I read Lauren Faust's response to the attack that feminist columnist made on it, I wanted to watch it. First episode, and *zing*, hooked.

My start was pretty much just seeing the second MLP thread on Bay12. I knew about MLP, and I had seen references, but I had no idea that people weren't being ironic until the moment I saw the thread and realized shit was serious. I started watching the show and fell in love with it.

I'd seen the show being referenced constantly, figured it couldn't hurt to try it out. Now just look at me, reading fanfics, and shipping, and forming headcanon and all that utter nonsense. First time I've ever been involved in a fandom to such a degree.

I was introduced to Friendship is Magic back early last summer with the Ponycraft 2 video. I was thoroughly amused, but held off watching the show. I think I just didn't believe it was possible for My Little Pony to be awesome or something. Late summer something strange happened, the likes of which I cannot remember, and I watched the first episode. Loving it, I kept it up with an episode every day. It's one of those times where I was thankful for dial up. I had something to be excited about every day. =)

Was significantly more painful when I ran out of episodes though...

And on a note to the previous topic of discussion, before it was so rudely intruded by me somepony, I was introduced to MLP by none other than Debesh. He came over to my house one weekend, said, "Watch this, and don't form a judgement until it's over," then proceeded to show me Season One, Episode Sixteen; Sonic Rainboom.

Needless to say, I was hooked, Rainbow Dash is best pony, and the rest is happy, happy history.
