I really enjoyed this one as well. I think Young Granny Smith had a pretty awesome design; I can't wait to see some of the fanart. It is also nice to see a bit more of a fleshing out of the history of Equestria, and the nature of wild magic.

Continuity error:
"No Spike, Ponyville was started by Earth ponies, so for hundreds of years they've never used magic to clean up winter. It's traditional."

Can't handwave that one away. They remembered to start Ponyville with Earth Ponies, but forgot they mentioned a minimum time frame. Should've made Ponyville a tiny outpost or something before the apple family arrived, and it would've been fine.

There's nothing that states that the in-series ponies aren't incredibly long-lived. They've never actually given a time-frame for the pony lifespan, so they could live for a good half a millenium for all we know.

There's also the chance that the planet orbits a hell of a lot faster than Earth, making years a much shorter amount of time.

This is pretty much what I was thinking, myself. Just looking at the changes in clothing, technology, etc., and we're talking probably a change from the equivalent of the 1700s to the early 1900s from Granny Smith's visit to Canterlot to the modern day, as it appeared to be late-medieval/early IR in terms of culture and technology, while the current-day ponies are at roughly 1920s-'30s level of technology (note: trains, phonographs, what appear to be primitive (aka vacuum tube) computers, etc.).

Given that they live in what is by all appearances complete peace, with no apparent harmful diseases beyond basic illnesses such as cold viruses, etc. Combine this with their native magic and connection to the environment, and I wouldn't call it absurd to say that they could live for 200-300 T-years.

During a routine visit to one of the only two McDonalds in our town, I've found out they have finally added the MLP toys to their Happy Meal sets.

... I've never been so tempted to buy a Happy Meal in my life. Just for the sheer "wtf" value it'd induce in my relatives. But, after staring intently at the two toys they had on display (suspiciously, both of Applejack... and the ugliest pair of Pikachu's I've ever seen, because Pokemon is also included), I've decided against it. Rather than spend money on a fairly useless set of food in addition to a cheap plastic toy I can't actually choose, I'd rather spend a little less on a good snack, and then scour the bigger toy shops around here for the same toys; even if they will probably cost twice as much as the Happy Meal, at least I'd be able to see 'em up close and choose what I get.

You can also try Amazon, though they tend to be pretty costly there (~$15-17). Not sure how that compares to prices in brick & mortar stores, though.

Just watched Family Appreciation Day. It was way better than I expected. Although the CMC slapstick was kind of boring.

And yes, they kind of do invent new kinds of magic all the time, but as long as it doesn't contradict anything, I'm absolutely fine with it.

Just so long as it doesn't come from nowhere (everfree's been established as magical and weird), or the fact that it comes from nowhere is pointed out/lampshaded (pinkie sense). Then I'm fine with them making new magical stuff. In fact, I find it vastly preferable to them introducing new technologies (still facepalming over the hydro electric power plant and construction crane).

Well, new technology can mostly be handwaved by Magitek. Everyone just assumes that Magitek always looks extremely whimsical and magical, but it could just as well look like boring old technology. After all, any sufficiently advanced magic is indistinguishable from technology.
Although I'm reasonably sure that that's not what the creators of the show had in mind. They probably didn't think about it too much and were like "Yeah, let's put some technology in for no raisins."
I don't even like raisins.

Mare Do Well was just so badly, badly written. I like the premise but holy crap they botched it.
