Once upon a time, in the magical land of Equestria…
There came an era when the ideals of friendship gave way to greed, selfishness, paranoia, and a jealous reaping of dwindling space and natural resources. Lands took up arms against their neighbors. The end of the world occurred much as we had predicted – the world was plunged into an abyss of balefire and dark magic. The details are trivial and pointless. The reasons, as always, purely our own. The world was nearly wiped clean of life. A great cleansing; a magical spark struck by pony hooves quickly raged out of control. Megaspells rained from the skies. Entire lands were swallowed in flames and fell beneath the burning oceans. Ponykind was almost extinguished, their spirits becoming part of the ambient radiation that blanketed the lands. A quiet darkness fell across the world…

- Dwarf fortress is an incredibly complex game with a steep learning curve. If you're new to the game, I absolutely recommend reading these three tutorials alongside your first Stable. Your first few attempts may be short-lived, but with each loss you will learn more and more about what it takes to survive. The first two assume you've already generated a world, so when you open the game, select "Design New World with Advanced Parameters" and hit "Enter" to generate using predetermined settings. Once a world is generated, select "Start Playing" → "Dwarf Fortress" then choose a Stable location without an aquifer and embark. See General Tips and Hints below for further guidelines.

Also note that this mod adds hundreds of new features on top of the default game. Hello everypony! I'm Lycaeon from the Bay 12 forums and for a while I've been running a Fallout:Equestria mod there. I wasn't aware of the existence of this forum until recently, and, with the encouragement of the posters back in Bay 12, I've decided to open an offshoot thread. Not exactly sure if this is the subtopic for DF mods, so feel free to move it to the right location! I hope all of you enjoy the mod, and I'll be keeping track of this thread for feedback and suggestions! Thank you for your time and consideration. 
The DF thread has the complete list of features and guides for the mod, so reading it is a must, but I'll be moving sections over gradually.
