Episode 11/13: Hearth's Warming Eve

Looks like we're getting a Christmas episode apparently involving a play about the founding of Equestria.

And thus hundreds of headcanons were mercilessly sundered under the pastel-coloured hooves of a holiday episode.

Nah. Pretty much every story could explain it as propaganda/distortion over time/etc.


That said, I think this could be very d'awworthy.

That and considering the prior established canon this could be dismissed as nonfactual. They'll probably try and tie it in, though. They've still got intelligent storyboard artists.

This is going to ding my personal theory that Equestria was founded by a anthromorphic personification of Order who is constantly at war with the anthromorphic personification of Chaos who is a festering disease-filled humanoid. And then at the end of the show they'll make the entire last season about the group being slowly corrupted by both influences. Cos, that would make an awesome finale. Oh wait, that's what Lauren Faust wants to make. Awesome!

Too bad she's not really on the team anymore, isn't it?

The funny thing is, if you get rid of the 'anthropomorphic embodiment' part that's sort of how our entire universe works.

I'm guessing they nadle it way betetr than anyone expects, either never actualy revealing how equestria was made because the plays ending isn't shown, or because it's so vague it's compatible with anything, or somehtign like that. Or they base of the most popular fanon modified bit to be even better like they did Luna.

If it's a play done by the M6, I fully expect it to gradually degrade into hilarity as everyone's individual personality kicks in and corrupts the script. In essence, this is going to be "How Equestria Was Made: Abridged", or, if you've seen it, "How Equestria Was Made, by Ember Island Players".

I'm personally betting it's going to be a school play with all our favorite grammar-school aged characters. And they're going to manage to screw up the play horribly and have to work together to finish it properly.

If you mean the CMC and other schoolfoals, it specifically says it's the M6 doing the play.

Twilight's probably going to be trying to recreate the whole thing down to immaculate detail, Rarity's probably going to ham it up, Fluttershy won't be able to perform because of crippling stage fright, RD's going to just rush through her lines, Pinkie Pie'll either be Pinkie or somehow do the best performing out of all of them, and Applejack's probably going to be the only one who really tries to do the play by the book. If Pinkie's taking the role of 'perfect performer,' AJ's going to be trying and failing to act without her accent.

Of course, according to most fanon involving massive wars between gods, goddesses, and 'demon' figures, that would actually be more accurate than ponies standing around talking to each other. And really, what sort of creation story is it without massive, world-shattering combat between beings with the power to unmake the average mortal simply by willing it?

Ah, how quickly a topic can be derailed.
Actually, that brings up another question I had. Namely, the nomenclature of different levels of forum. Obviously, at the low end, there are posts. Moving up, though, I'm not entirely sure on the differences between boards, threads, topics, and so on. Please to be explaining this.

In order of decreasing size:

Discussion board, Discussion forum, Board(s) / Forum(s) (plural more often) - The overall site with all the discussions.
Area, Section - Named collections of individual forums, these don't have topics in them.
Forum, Board - The basic "building block" of a discussion board.
Subforum, Subsection - Not always smaller, but usually more specific. Always parented to a forum or board, i.e. someplace with topics.
Thread, Topic - In turn, basic "building blocks" of a forum.
Post, Message

On these forums, Canterlot, Ponyville, etc., are actually forums, but we call them sections because they're mostly used as such, as nobody starts threads in them.
