Cynical madman talking, but complete destruction of any evidence of Earth would be mandatory for the survival of the pony race. Proles would get ideas, and think, "What if we could trade/talk, and become friends?" People start getting riled up. "THERE ARE NO SUCH THING!" "YES THERE ARE!" Suddenly, you have riots. The riots lead to windigos. The windigos cause another age of despair, and the cold sours moods. Soon you have the end of Equestria as you know it.

I should probably read that fic to get what the hay is going on here.

Exactly. Which is why I think Celestia would mind-wipe everyone involved, and shoulder the burden of guilt, leaving the human on Earth (who won't be able to affect anything, so can keep at least a part of the happy memories) and herself as the only ones with any knowledge of what actually happened. But, again, all just speculation. Any outcome is possible, and since the author ended the story without elaborating on his own thoughts, we are left with a whole slew of them, as is usual in the Multiverse.

Pretty sure the artist is is MadmaxComics (who might or might not be CSIMadMax), but I'm not 100% sure.

As far as I know, that's a reference to a troll-comic that has too many variations to know which one is the original.
