You'd never heard of it before? That game is one of the best examples of the cute =/= child friendly rule.

Honestly, I think they could have done /far/ worse than what they did with her.

Actually, when I first watched the episode, I was like "GOD FUCKING DAMNIT, THAT VOICE!" because I've gotten used to PierceSmoulder's (the creator of Doctor Whooves and Assistant) voice and I still think that the deep voice doesn't really fit her too well, but all in all, it's not that bad. In fact, they've mostly shown that she's extremely unlucky, rather clumsy and doesn't think too much about the consequences of her actions. Which I can sorta live with since especially the latter two have been canon even before this episode and because they don't contradict my headcanon too much. That does not mean that she's stupid or "retarded".

That's why you leave fanon characters as fanon.

With all the gushing about that particular fanfic I might actually read it.

The premise kinda makes me skeptical, though.

It is really much better than it looks at first glance.

I stopped caring for it after it was pointed out that the idea of Celestia forcibly and permanently separating the two was completely OOC and mostly just fabricated for a sad end.

To be fair, it is reasonable if she was more focused on a Prime Directivesque policy of mutual noninteraction (which, given humanity's track record, isn't exactly some far-out insane idea), and while it does come off as a bit jerkish that she won't let him come to Equestria, that doesn't mean that it is unreasonable. She is an immortal goddess-ruler, and has been alive for a minimum of more than 1,000 years by canon, possibly hundreds of thousands according to a number of fanons, and has more than enough reason to prevent all contact between Equestria and Earth. Even if it is emotionally painful for everyone involved, it is still better than the chance of Equestria being corrupted/invaded/enslaved in the long term, and as an immortal ruler with an absolute responsibility to protect all of her citizen-worshippers, that takes priority over the happiness of a few, however cruel it may be. Just because she did it doesn't mean she wanted to. Unless and until the author confirms that it was a plot device with no thought behind it, I'll be assuming otherwise.

You know, the main character had sort of proven himself. He at least could have been taken along. It's easy enough to stop a single human.

Personally, I agree with that, but from her perspective, it would still be an unacceptable risk, if only because it might inspire curiosity in some unicorn who decides to figure out where this bald monkey came from, and succeeds. Any immortal with that sort of responsibility and an absolute dedication to it is going to be forced to make painful choices to counter even slight odds, especially when the stakes are that high.

As one who has been running "human in Equestria" scenarios in his head for far more time than is absolutely healthy, I think I can say that keeping human presence in Equestria to zero is very much a smart thing to do. The problem isn't the human him/her/itself, it's the knowledge, worldviews and mentality that come bundled. Celestia keeps her world in a balanced state, carefully monitoring the progress. The human is a wildcard, an unpredictable element that would present a danger likely even if isolated - especially if it possesses a strong bond with one of the natives. In the long term, it is far safer to keep the human out altogether than allow it to interact with Equestria, even in a controlled manner. So all in all, Celestia is justified in doing what she does. The author intentionally left the ending open, not clarifying the details of whether Dash remembers her experiences on Earth, but I'd like to think that she doesn't, as that would leave the overall effect from the events contained to just the human on Earth, and Celestia's own memories, and so that's what Celestia would choose to do if preserving Equestria's integrity really is what she strives for.

For the story itself, I guess the inevitability of the resolution dampens the impact too much. It's clear from the get-go that the happiness won't last, and for all the emotional torque the ending provides, someone who does not easily believe in happy endings won't be at all affected by it, as it would be entirely predictable. And also annoying, as there is no full closure to the story (as mentioned, intentionally left open) and the reader is left to mull over the possible outcomes. But for all that, it's clear that the story is sad - it's just a lot less effective for some people than for others.
