B12 Battle Royale RP
So yeah. Scelly9 from B12 is running it, I'm helping out as a mod. What it says on the tin, a fairly freeform RP using the Battle Royale style setting as the stage.

Re: B12 Battle Royale RP
It looks like something I'd enjoy, but all of my experience with RP has so far been 'hard rules' RP with stats and rolls and such, so I dunno how I'd manage. Might help satisfy my lust for human interaction a bit, though.

I think both he and I are willing to let people do what they want, as long as they can provide a reasonable explanation for how their character is able to do it.

Re: B12 Battle Royale RP
The issue with that is I know how to disable explosives, so unless the collar's got more fancy gadgets than actual explosive material any character I made would probably be able to disable their collar given the right tools and a few minutes to work.

According to the manga, the collars are tamper-proof - in the sense that if you fiddle with them to any extent beyond (possibly) adjusting their position, kaboom happens and your neck goes byebye.

Re: B12 Battle Royale RP
I haven't read Battle Royale, so I'm not sure on some of the stuff. I haven't seen Hunger Games either. From what I understand, it's some kind of gladiator tournament, with a peace area, and explosive collars if they try to leave?
I think a trained bomb defuser could probably defuse it. Depends how complicated it is. Meh, I don't know much about diffusing bombs. Making bombs on the other hand...Zaerosz wrote:According to the manga, the collars are tamper-proof - in the sense that if you fiddle with them to any extent beyond (possibly) adjusting their position, kaboom happens and your neck goes byebye.

Re: B12 Battle Royale RP
You can only make a device so tamper-proof. There's always a way to circumvent the system. By the time you designed a foolproof device, it would be more cost-effective to just hire a small flotilla to guard the coasts of the island.
As for Hunger Games, they didn't have explosive collars. Instead, the terrain around the arena area was designed to be intimidating (and presumably lethal if the participant insisted) so that the participants wouldn't be able to escape. At least, that's how it was portrayed in the movie IIRC.

If you somehow made an explosive completely tamper-proof, it'd probably be pretty dangerous to even move. It'd blow if you... fell... on... it... The Bay12 one looks like it's on an island, probably far enough away to prevent escape.

Re: B12 Battle Royale RP
They do have tamper-proof explosive. It's called nitroglycerin. As well as a number of other compounds, some of which you can find in a good copy of the Anarchist's Cookbook. Fun to know, stupid to make because you'll more than likely seriously maim or kill yourself or cause massive property damage.

Re: B12 Battle Royale RP
Not certain if unconventional or inconvenient.
Anyhow, I seem to recall that in the original novel, they were only monitored by microphones in the collars, not cameras. What Shogo did was he took the other two (can't remember their names; rocker guy and hurt-leg girl) up to a scenic place and acted out executions, but shot their collars, shattering them enough that they could be removed without detonating the explosives (somehow).
But yes, there is probably a way to make them more reliably tamper-proof without being easy to accidentally set off. That said, our island isn't going to be a couple miles away from land with conveniently located warships just offshore, it'll be in the middle of the goddamn [DATA EXPUNGED]. In any case, escaping will be difficult enough as it is, apart from which it would essentially be the same as character death in terms of the RP, as you would at best be RPing yourself swimming/floating for days across the [REDACTED], ending either with drowning, dehydration, or [DATA EXPUNGED].
Hell, if we wanted to be really cruel, we could make up a crossover backstory with a less ethical alternate version of the Foundation, with the island as some sort of spatial distortion artifact that will return you to itself regardless of what you do if you try to leave it on foot. And then we could have the Foundation use it as some sort of freeform testing ground and dump, say, 173 in there with all of our characters. Or maybe 'Able'.

Unconventional. I keep getting my un-s and in-s mixed up.
What's the backstory to this anyhow? Do we actually have collars, or do we just have an endless sea?
Damn all, fuck all. I'm signing up!

Would be rather pleasant to not have to deal with the collars, at least. It's a bit cliche, if nothing else.

Re: B12 Battle Royale RP
I'm not about to complain, we need every player we can get. We're only in the pregame, which is essentially us puttering around the school getting a handle on things.
As for the collars: pretty sure, yeah, but I'll talk to Scelly in mod chat and see if we can come up with something a bit more original. Hopefully something more deadly but with an obscure loophole that a clever person could figure out.

Re: B12 Battle Royale RP
I'm surprised, all the shows I've seen like this never seem to have well-hidden well-trained snipers to do the job. You'd figure that would actually be one of the easier and saner options.

Re: B12 Battle Royale RP
Ohohoho, I came up with a fun one, and that plays a small part of it. There are two loopholes that could let you escape; one is almost sure to end up with you dying quickly, and is mostly there to weed out anyone who is too dumb to live, and another that won't be guessed in a hundred years, but which could plausibly occur if the right set of circumstances came around, and which would essentially let you out of the kill device, but still leave you needing to figure out how to get off of an island in [DATA EXPUNGED].

Re: B12 Battle Royale RP
Alright, I have a few questions before I sign up. Are we signing up for the Royale, or are we going to Bay High, and then being kidnapped to go to said Royale?Flying Dice wrote:Ohohoho, I came up with a fun one, and that plays a small part of it. Also, if we're doing the 'splodey collars, I'm going to have some fun with the... losers.

Currently we are in pre-game, which is just a chance to make friends in game and practice your RP skills. In a day or two (When me and dice finish the rules) we will be transitioning to the main game when you guys are kidnapped on the way to your field-trip.

Heh, they aren't explosive collars, and there is a way to get them off without hurting yourself, but it isn't the sort of thing that most sane people will be able to guess, though there is a slight chance of someone discovering it accidentally, if they are willing to do certain types of RP and happen to do so in fairly specific circumstances.

Now enough shitting around, time to sign up!
EDIT:
Done and done.
Time to have some Fun
With those who have entered the game, and are done.
I don't have a great chance, but it's better than none.
The game will eventually end
With two meager men
And the game will turn, one-on-one.
