It's a reference to Tribes: Ascend.
Just as Portal spawned the "The Cake Is A Lie" meme and Team Fortress 2 spawned the "Gentlemen"/"Mentlegen" meme and tons of reaction pictures about those, Tribes: Ascend revived the "Gotta Go Fast!" meme, coupled with the game's characters' desire to go fast and hatred of going slow.
