Speaking of flags, don't Unicornia, Pegasopolis, and Dirtville have their own flags from Hearth's Warming Eve?
Of course, someone claims it's [flags] "worse than ponies" out of nowhere...I don't randomly come in and bash anime shows or Adventure Time even though I don't personally like them, and people would call me out if I did. What makes ponies the exception to the rule?
And yes, I am aware of the history on Bay 12.

@Jervill.
Why do people do that, you ask? One of the mysteries of the universe. Why is the Twilight (book series) hatebase almost as big as the fanbase? Why are furries the internet's punching bag?
I think it can be best summed up that people are jerks.

Re: Random non sequitur posts thread
At the very least, Twilight the book has a fairly deserved bad reputation. Publishers used to actually take the literature they put out seriously, expecting the books to, if nothing else, be written decently. Twilight, and now Fifty Shades of Grey, both exemplify the kind of writing quality you'd see in stereotypical bad fanfiction. Some people I know are actually scared that they're effectively the tip of the iceberg, and that poor-quality books becoming the norm in literature might happen.
Furries, IIRC, used to have a bad reputation because of their behavior. Sort of like how the Irish immigrants to the United States would segregate themselves from the rest of the people, with their own private schools and churches, furries used to segregate themselves to their own boards, alienating them from everyone else. Now that they're coming into the mainstream, furry-ism still abounds, but it's starting to see a drop.
Ponies, though... hating ponies is just a thing, just like for some people liking it is just a thing. I'm certain there's people with legitimate reason to hate ponies, like having some of the more assholish fans pester them constantly despite not caring for the show, but for a lot people it's essentially acceptable targets to be fill-in-the-blank-ist toward.
tl;dr There's some legitimate reasons that some stuff is hated, but a lot of it's bandwagoning.

Re: Random non sequitur posts thread
There's legitimate reason to not like something, but when it dips into "hate" then the vast majority of the time it is unjustified. And it is ENTIRELY unjustified when the hate is directed at fans for merely being a fan or mentioning the subject in question.
I can see hate against Twilight's horrific depiction of a "healthy" relationship being justified. The sheer amount of bile thrown at it (and especially the fans) is ludicrously disproportionate to any crimes, though.
Someone being a snob? Fine, dislike the snobbery, but not what they're being snobby about.
Someone mentioning something you dislike? Keep your comments to yourself.
Someone shoving it down your throat? Burn them in righteous fire, but please avoid hitting bystanders.
Excuse me for ranting, but I really hate associative fallacies.

It's one of those times when gender stereotypes meets internet. So on the one hand, Ponies = ACCEPTABLE TARGET, on the other hand, Ponies is a part of the internet. So you've got people who'll happily use it in a sentence like "still better than x" whilst you've got a MASSIVE demographic who will go "what the shit are you talking about?"Johuotar wrote:What on earth makes it so problemful thing?

Re: Random non sequitur posts thread
Bit late for the party here, but yeah.
Some of the pony-related derails I've seen on B12 were caused by pony fans. There's a certain subset of the fandom that creates a lot of the tension because they don't know when to just drop the subject. People shouldn't react with vitrol to the show being mentioned, but fans should be aware that at a certain point it become grating, as it would to be constantly pestered by fans about anything that one doesn't already enjoy. However, the vast majority of pony-derails that come up are caused by another group of people on B12 (and I've noticed that it is largely the same ones, around 15 or so people, though I won't name any names specifically) who, without fail, will drag MLP into damn near anything just for the chance to bash it. In particular, this happens a lot in the "rate the [x] above you" threads. Honestly, it is sort of frightening how eager certain people are to jump on bronies and attack the show; I've pointed out more than once that they're far more obsessed with MLP than most fans are.
In relation to the flag thing, I'd say to go ahead and make subtle ones, maybe with Celestia/Luna cutiemarkesque emblems on white/dark blue (or violet) backgrounds, post them without mentioning the origin, possibly as part of a larger set. Don't even mention MLP, but if someone else brings it up and starts being obnoxious, report them for it. Point out that they're essentially trying to troll people and cause a pony derail, both in the thread and in the report. Personally, I'm long past the point of any real anger and am just being vindictive because I dislike that sort of behavior in general.
As for the whole connection on B12 of MLP = Spam and porn? It's really sort of funny, except not. The first part, true. Heh, two threads were locked because of imagespam, and I honestly think that getting rid of MLP-centric threads was a good idea, not because of the conflict it caused, but because they tended to devolve into pure image- and videospam, rather than discussion of the show. The second part, true false on B12. But what still bugs me about it is how a number of people (quite a few of whom were individuals that I had actually respected at the time) bandwagoned on the whole 'spreading false rumors' thing without any familiarity with the situation. If I can point out a time where I stopped seeing B12 in a good light, that would probably be it. Not to say that I dislike B12. Just that it is now a neutral grey in comparison to the slime-encrusted abyss that is the typical internet forum.

I showed off my crappy MLP flag in the flag thread, and it didn't derail into nonsense (hooray!), so that answers that.

Loaded up my fort I'm still running from months ago...I lose about a child a month to minecart collisions, but the dwarves give birth about twice a month. I refuse to actively kill my dwarves, so I'm currently just trying to expand the fort to fit the new mouths.

Ah, two years ago I was shocked to find my friend tell me what bronies are.
Here I am, two years later contrib00tin to #85.
Sho awesome
My take on the Unicornia flag
What do you guys think? I'll probably run any pony flags here before chucking them at bay12

Any time I think of making a new fort, I think about my FPS problems and just lose all interest. I play to hoard items, and items kill framerate.Jervill wrote:Loaded up my fort I'm still running from months ago...I lose about a child a month to minecart collisions, but the dwarves give birth about twice a month. I want my 100,000 bars of gold goddamn it, just so I can make all my dwarves solid gold bedrooms with golden toothbrushes. But nooooo.

Re: Random non sequitur posts thread
I can play a fort with a framerate as low as 10, if necessary. Usually it sits at about 20-30 FPS such as right now (with 200 dwarves). My current fort (Groovetrades) doesn't have 100,000 bars of gold, but it does have just about that amount in silver...to the point where I do not know what to do with it all.
EDIT: Also, I'm thinking of setting up a stud farm for breeding experiments. I'll see if this caravan has any mares for sale.
