Age is easy enough to lie about, (although that is technically Computer Fraud, at least in the USA.) I've been on internet long enough to know some people are more mature at 17 than others at 22.
No lawyer, but, I think even registering an account requires you to be legally responsible for your decisions.

We've had our test case, established a precedent, Now, shall we say "The everfree forest contains things some may find objectionable: discression is advised" and move on?

Just still have the "Ask and you shall recieve", but add a disclaimer so that the law ain't as intrusive.

I'd be horrified if this place grew even moderatly large and have to remove most of the stuff I've contributed. It's meant for just this small group of friends. So let's hope that miracle never hapens, and if it does I say we close everfree for ALL new members not just the ones below 18. But maybe that's just me.

What it pretty much amounts to is that we're still a small community and we can afford to make choices about this based on intuition. Hell, Dsarker is 17, and I suspect that some others from our original group are younger than 18, so it would be hypocritical to outright ban people from it solely on account of age. I guess the point I'm trying to make is that the rule needs to be in place both as a legal thing (everyone who is in the EF needs to have acknowledged that it contains mature content, and that they are aware that it was entirely their choice to be exposed to it), and so that in the (unlikely) event of us becoming a major pony forum, we have a way to prevent everyone from being exposed to it. My thoughts on this, while not quite as extreme as Armok's, would basically be along the lines of "We'll choose who to let in, if anyone". The age limiter isn't really such; it is more of a legal fiction/indicator of the content. If we said "forbidden" or "mature", it might not be clear enough, but "18+" tends to be a fairly universal indicator of what the content will be.

As it stands, however, we are a very small community, with little/no growth, and I see no reason to prevent anyone who wishes to be able to view and contribute to the Everfree Forest, so long as they recognize that if they see something there that shocks, offends, traumatizes, etc. them, it isn't our fault. Basically, it isn't a matter of "If you are under 18, you can't be a part of it", but of "You need to recognize that this contains content that would be rated R/M/X/AO/whatever if it were released under those rating systems, and you must acknowledge that you viewed it of your own free will". Hope that cleared things up.

yep. establish some criterion, like you'd need to have been around and somewhat active for a time before asking to be let in, so folks might get some chance to understand what sort of community this place fosters before you make your choice, and explicitly state it is a choice you make of your own free will and desire to know.

Well, as far as I can tell, everyone who's a user here is from Bay12, so that's absolutely no problem. I really don't want this place to become super popular with non-Bay12-forumites, but even if it does, establishing a vague rule or process of some kind should be doable.

Well, I did rise (or sink) to the occasion as well, and I'm still living with myself just fine.

I'll be totally honest. I've only read 1 fanfiction. And it was a lemon. And it wasn't that good. And not in a hilariously bad way, even. Just average.

Pony Farm only resembles a lemon in that if your eyes brush upon it, they start to burn.
